DETAILED EXPERIENCE
FLUOR – working for British Energy, (JUNE 2005 – TO PRESENT)
POSITION IN FIRM - Site Project Manager rising to Project Developer-Special Projects
Member of the senior project team services reporting directly to the Client. From June to mid-November I was the Site Project Manager at Dungeness B (managing a team of 20 project managers, engineers, technicians and other support staff). Early indications identified that estimating, programme and risk management was generally poor. I provided training, guidance, experience, leadership and motivation that led to a very successful Autumn Outage. All projects were delivered with no safety issues, within budget and to schedule. On completion of the Dungeness Outage, I was asked to take a new role in strategic development at BE’s Head Office in Barnwood, Gloucester. First task was as part of a 3 man team to analyse BE's £1billion investment / maintenance strategy over the next 5 years and report how that work could be packaged and managed by specialist term contractors. Just before Christmas 05 I was asked to form and manage a project to provide new buildings across the fleet for up to 400 additional staff by mid 2006. Facilities to include office space, meeting rooms, furniture, IT and everything required outwith and within. The initial project constraint was liquidation of just over £4m before April 06 and a budget of £1.5m to completion by end July 06. The brief was that project had to prove excellent value for money in comparison to normal market conditions. This was to be achieved through the aggressive (as well as rewarding) deals being struck through the supply chain. Phase I, the plan to the end of March 06 has now been successfully completed providing nearly 4600m2 of new office space at well below budget cost. Both finance and programme is on course for completion mid 06. Project change is being controlled to ensure the original budget and schedule is maintained. Indeed, through careful planning and the management of opportunities the project has acquired an additional 1400m2 office space, making a total of nearly 6000m2 available within budget the original budget. Due to limiting resource availability and the extremely short timescales this project has been delivered with the assistance of only one project manager and a key point of contact at each site. Total management costs for the project lifecycle are currently well below 2%. In January 06, in addition to provision of additional office space, I was asked to provide management support to the forthcoming Dungeness Rotor inspection/exchange project. This inspection/exchange is not straightforward as it entails a full inspection of the Rotor and the Stator due to unknown foreign material being found and was the cause of a SACI being raised. Working directly for the Event Recovery Manager I was tasked with ensuring the timely delivery of this rotor (or a strategic spare, currently under preparation at Siemens, Newcastle UK) and its return to service.
